"Vores danske værdier" - En kritisk analyse

Research output: Contribution to journalJournal articleResearchpeer-review

The immigration of people with "other values" has made some Danes demand that we stand firm on our Danish values. However, it is ambiguous what it means for a value to be "ours" and Danish. An analysis of the concept of autonomy can contribute to clarifying what it means for a value to be ours and to answer the normative question regarding whether it is legitimate to speak of "our Danish values". The Kantian notion of reflective endorsement and the theory of deliberative democracy can supply criteria for when values legitimately can be called ours. Our Danish values ought to refer to those values that Danes reflectively can endorse under conditions that promote inclusive, common deliberation, while it is illegitimate to stand firm on values as ours and Danish, exclusively because they are part of Danish history and culture.
