Study Board for Political Science and Social Studies

The study board is tasked with helping ensure that the Department of Political Science follows the requirement of “giving research-based education at the highest international standard” mandated by the Danish legislation on universities. The main task of the Study Board is to approve the biannual education plans. Furthermore, the Study Board carries out evaluations of the education given at the department, prepares new programme curriculums, and process applications on merit- and dispensations from the parameters of the programme curriculum. The Study Board also determents the budget for the education activities at the department.

The Study Board consists of four staff members elected among the researcher staff, three students elected from the Political Science programme, and one student elected fra the Social Science programme. The chair is elected among the researcher staff member whereas the deputy chair is elected among the student members. Researcher staff are elected for a three-year period while the students are elected for a one-year period. The Study Board meets  approx. eight times a year.

Two subcommittees have been established to ease the workload of the Study Board.

  1. The Merit and Dispensation committee: The committee progresses merit-, dispensation-, and internship applications among others. The committee then puts forward recommendations on the applications to the Study Board

  2. The Quality Committee: The committee is tasked with ensuring and devolving the quality of the education given at department as well as the pedagogical aspect trough constructive evaluation among other measures. To that regard, the Quality Committee gives out the annual education award and puts forward initiatives to increase the student patriation in the biannual evaluations

The requirements put upon the Study Board are described in the Danish legislation on universities paragraph 18 (ref. Universitetsloven § 18).
