Political Theory
The Political Theory research group addresses contemporary issues via theoretical and philosophical reflection. The group’s research is motivated by the fact that the history of political ideas and contemporary political theory contain insights that could offer important perspectives on current political challenges.
The Political Theory research group aims to disseminate the study of political theory within social science generally.
Political Theory works on an interdisciplinary basis and can therefore be instrumental in bringing together political science and other disciplines such as philosophy, history, sociology, and law.
Political Theory applies a broad range of traditions within history of political thinking as well as contemporary political theory. The group covers a multitude of issues, including democratic innovation, climate issues, populism, tolerance, inequality, and secularism.
Linking theory and reality
The research group represents numerous approaches to political theory, the history of political ideas, and the history of the theory of science – however, everyone shares the goal of conducting problem-driven research, thus linking abstract theorising with concrete political challenges.
The activities of the Political Theory research group include workshops, all-day seminars, and international research conferences. The research group occasionally plays host to visiting professors, who contribute to special interest areas within the group.
The group collaborates closely with the student organisation SUVERÆN on promoting the study of political theory.
