Summary:
Direct elections and proportional representation generate a stronger counter voice to globalization in the European Parliament than what we observe in the United Nations General Assembly. This finding supports the notion that international organizations and the elites that Work in them are instruments in a cosmopolitan agenda for world order and that democratizing international organizations may lead to a stronger representation of communitarian opponents of globalization in global governance.

Kurz gefasst: Die Zusammensetzung des Europäischen Parlaments, mit seinen
direkt gewählten Abgeordneten aus dem gesamten politischen Spektrum,
führt dazu, dass dort globalisierungskritische Stellungnahmen stärker
vertreten sind als in der UN-Vollversammlung. Diese Tatsache lässt die Annahme zu, dass in einem demokratisch gewählten Welt-Parlament kommunitaristische Stimmen stärker vertreten wären als heute in den internationalen Organisationen, in denen die kosmopolitisch eingestellten Eliten den Ton angeben.
