The European Union's Normative Power in a more Global Era

Research output: Contribution to journalReviewResearch

  • Ian James Manners
The globalising, multilateralising and multipolarising era requires a reconsideration of the nature of European Union (EU) power and actorness in a more global era. The article does this by first looking at the study of the EU in a more global era. Second, the normative power approach will be examined, focussing on engagement, internationalisation and comparison. Third, the approach to conceptualising normative power in a more global era will be set out. Finally, the article will conclude by examining six mechanisms of the EU's normative justification in action.
