Anders Woller Nielsen

Research area:

Anders Woller studies clientelism and institutional manipulation with projects in South Africa, Uganda, and Russia. Current projects study how incumbents adapt their clientelistic strategies to the electoral institutions in place, when said institutions are autonomous, while incumbents actively manipulate the electoral infrastructure to make their electoral strategies more effective, when institutions are not autonomous. A specific aim of Anders' research is to unfold how incumbents have to trade-off positive and negative consequences of concrete reforms intended to manipulate the electoral infrastructure.

Background: Anders Woller holds a PhD and an MSc in Political Science from University of Copenhagen as well as an MSc in Comparative Politics from London School of Economics and Political Science. His broader interests concern elections in non-consolidated democracies and autocracies, comparative political economy, politics of development, and causal inference.
