A discussion of agonist theory of democracy and deliberative democratic theory with special focus on the construction of legitimacy in the public realm and how individuals may contribute to the formation of legitimacy. Additionally, the concept of new public spheres has been suggested as a way of taking the special legitimacy demands of minority groups into account.
