The conceptual phrase “Maritime Security” and the following “Maritime Security Operations” (MSO) has become more and more popular among navies. The reason for that is primarily the change of geopolitical focus. During The Cold War navies primarily focused their capabilities on deterrence and combat readiness on- and from the sea. Today the capability needs has changed to a more wide-ranging scope, where navies carry the responsibility of “good order at sea” in a globalized world.
