Gender@SAMF: Research seminar Menstrual justice, rights and equity

Menstruation is not only a biological phenomenon but a complex socio-political issue that intersects with power dynamics, equity, and human rights. In light of the growing political and social attention to menstruation, Gender@SAMF invites you to discover cutting edge research on the issue from diverse social science perspectives including sociology, political science, and law.

The papers presented will critically examine menstruation in a way that particularly emphasizes questions of politics, power, equity, and rights. They illuminate some of the ways political systems and discourses shape menstrual politics, policies, and representation; how power structures, including social movements, the media, and corporate actors, influence access to menstrual health resources, education, and decision-making; offer critical perspectives on menstruation as an issue of social, economic, and gender equity; and examine how menstruation intersects with human rights, including in terms of bodily autonomy and agency.

The research seminar is open to staff and students across SAMF.

Registration is required.
