Abstract
One of the great threats faced by modern autocratic regimes is expansive access to the consumption and exchange of information brought upon by developments in technology. Despite hopeful predictions about new pathways for democratization in light of the new opportunities afforded to opposition movements and civil society, autocrats have acclimated to the communication technologies and solidified an updated range of on- and offline information control tools.
