After the Washington Consensus: New rules for a world in turmoil

Book presentation by Andrés Velasco, London School of Economic and Political Science (LSE)’s School of Public Policy, Signe Krogstrup, Central Bank of Denmark and Carl-Johan Dalgaard, the Economic Councils, Denmark.

The rules that governed economic policy for a generation are no longer sufficient. Geo-political upheaval, climate change, rising inequality, the AI revolution, democratic backsliding, and a fragmenting world economy have rendered the old playbook obsolete. But what comes next?

The London Consensus: Economic Principles for the 21st Century - a landmark volume bringing together over 50 of the world’s leading economists and political scientists - sets out to answer precisely that question. Drawing on the best available evidence across growth, inequality, climate, trade, and democracy, the book proposes a new framework for policymakers navigating an era of unprecedented uncertainty and disruption.

Join us for a presentation of the book by one of its authors, Andrés Velasco, Professor and Dean of London School of Economic and Political Science (LSE)’s School of Public Policy, followed by interventions from Signe Krogstrup, Govenor of the Central Bank of Denmark and Carl-Johan Dalgaard, Professor and Head of the Economic Councils, Denmark.

The event is chaired by Professor Sara Hagemann.
